Freelance model Kristy Jessica is busy finishing her first full length feature documentry, ‘Bring Something Sexy“. But she managed to squeeze in a short How To video on her youtube channel. Glamour Posing: 3-step formula

I met Kristy back in December 2014.  She was searching for someone to score the soundtrack for Bring Something Sexy.   Although the mock ups went well, we both decided that she would be better off using another musician for the film.  However, it was agreed that would collaborate in the future when an appropriate project came along.  Around the end of March, that project came to light.  She was working on an instructional video to help promote her successful book ‘Basic Pose and Flow‘.  When she asked me to write the music for her video, I jumped at the chance.

How to pose Logic tracks

My DAW files for How to Pose.

The music is a fairly simple progression.  The main theme based in A Dorian and plays around a lot with the movement of the minor 7th to the major 6th of the chord.  Once I laid down some drum and bass loops I added in the Fender Rhodes for the harmony.  I used an old Yamaha nylon string acoustic to record the live guitars.  After that I added the strings and finally a lot of ‘sweetner’ tracks on top of the that.  The main challenge was to keep the music interesting to the listener for seven minutes without getting in the way of dialogue.  There are a few carefully timed breaks, mixed meters, solo sections and special effects to break the underscore up.

Everything was going too smoothly.  That was when Murphy’s Law reared it’s head the video card on my Mac went dead.  Luckily, it is a known issue on a very small amount of Mac’s produced in the late 2011’s and was under warranty.   A quick trip to The Genius Bar and my Mac was out for service for a week.  Then when I got it back the adaptor finally died on me.  I can’t complain, having taking my laptop with me on every tour for three years straight!

Finally, I got my Mac back and all the Logic files were intact.  I did a quick mix down and sent it over to Kristy.  She loved it and we launched it on Youtube.  Here’s to more collaborations with Kristy in the future.
